In honour of Spring switch off from all demands and expectations with this guided meditation to honour the beautiful spring day with the blossom on the trees swaying in the gentle breeze and the birdsong joyous in the air. Just allow all your stress, anxieties and worries just float away.
Guru Namaskar is a moving meditation dedicated to Hanuman, the monkey God in Hindu, the creator of the Surya Namaskar. This sequence has a harmonising effect on your entire being. The slow, quite repetitive sequence with pauses in each asana promotes an anti-anxiety feeling and allow for neuroplastic changes to take place; which helps you to build healthy anti-anxiety responses. The slow breathing allows development of your diaphragm muscles, which enhances the depth and effectiveness of your breath. The increase in oxygen levels in your blood stream creates a calm vitality as your cells get more oxygen. Physically, this sequence strengthens your whole body. I interpret this Namaskar as bowing with reverence to the light in our darkest moments (Namaskar means bowing in reverence to something greater than ourselves e.g. Sun, Moon etc this is not be mistaken for worship a "God" but rather a spirituality inside of ourselves) This sequence is made up of High and Low Lunges, Down Face Dog, Cobra and Child. Sun Salutation Sequence
Enjoy Surya Namaskar but want to practice it more than just in class, I have recorded this Surya Namaskar Sequence with 6 flows, in four each asana is held for 3 breaths and the last two for a single breath. Follow my spoken cues to flow through the sequence so you don't have to look up at the screen and just immerse yourself in your practice.
