ACUPRESSURE

Acupressure is a form of healing, this ancient art dates back approximately 5000 years and evidence shows that it was widely used in Asia. Acupressure is where a therapist applies pressure with the fingers to gradually press on various healing points along the surface of the body. This pressure helps to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities.

BENEFITS

The benefits of Acupressure are many the following are just a few brief insights:-

  • Release of Muscular tension

  • Promotes circulation

  • Enhances the body's life force (Chi, Ki, Prana etc) to flow freely enhancing and aiding healing

  • Stress relief

  • Boosts the Immune system

  • Promotes an overall sense of wellbeing

  • Pain relief

  • Increases energy levels

  • Detoxifies the body

  • Increases muscular "toning"

  • Relieves emotional pain

HOW?

So you know the benefits, but you still want to know why you should bother? Well Acupressure is known to relieve stress and pain - both the physical variety and the emotional. Sometimes physical pain is a manifestation of emotional pain.

When we feel emotional pain and distress we tighten our muscles, overtime if this emotional reaction and pain is not dealt with we bury it; only for it to be released when something new triggers that response and we react all over again - only this time the reaction is stronger than before.  Not only does this happen but the build up of emotional pain keeps negative feelings stuck in our cells and this build up causes the muscles to contract, exactly like a hard body of armour that we use to protect our vulnerable inner selves.

Imagine the fight and flight response to an angry confrontation where someone throws hurtful things in your face...your shoulders and neck instantly tighten, your facial muscles stiffen, your scalp stiffens and all of a sudden you are wearing a full face helmet akin to King Henry VIII!! Sometimes, more often than not we forget to release these muscles, like we forget to release the hurt and this prevents the negative emotions from being released, which in turns stops the clean flow of energy, which in turn causes jaw aches, headaches, neck & shoulder tension. This can happen with all of our body and the build up causes physical and emotional imbalances.

Acupressure used the meridian points through the body to disturb and reset the energy flow; the popular treatment of EFT (Emotional Freedom Therapy) is born from acupressure and acupuncture.

MERIDIAN or TRIGGER POINTS

In order to fully understand how Acupressure works you need to understand a little about trigger and meridian points.  A trigger point is basically a increased irritable point in the muscle tissue and it's related fascia - or the part of the muscle that is causing the pain.  An Acupoint is a point along the channel of the meridian pathway.

There considered to be twelve standard meridians, AKAPrincipal Meridians. These are divided into Yin and Yang groups. Yin meridians of the arm are Lung, Heart, and Pericardium. The Yang meridians of the arm are Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Triple Burner. The Yin Meridians of the leg are Spleen, Kidney, and Liver.

There are about 400 acupoints that are situated along the 20 main meridian channels.

WHY IS ACUPRESSURE SO GOOD?

Acupressure is so beneficial because it works on a totally different level to other therapies, common therapies such as CBT or counselling work purely on a cognitive level (thoughts) Acupressure works not just on the physical but the physiological source. Basically this means that you make an appointment for shoulder pain but it helps heal the emotional trauma from some personal attack that you had forgotten about - Acupressure releases the trapped emotions from your cells allowing your life energy to flow uninhibited once more.  Acupressure works on the body to relieve the physiological symptoms of tension and in the process helps relieve the original complaint but also tension and imbalances associated with the trapped energy ...and what is even better is that you don't even need to know why you have that trapped emotion.

ACUPRESSURE TREATMENT FOR PAIN?

An Acupressure massage is highly beneficial as it treats the source and remote trigger points for your pain.  This is done by focusing on the main source of pain and then radiating out.  Using trigger points or meridians you can successful help remove, or after a few session the tightness and pain.  This type of massage is not deep tissue and it isn't de-stressing and I only offer this as area specific massage.

ACU-FACIAL - WHAT IS THAT?

The truth is that what starts off as purely therapeutic often finds to have other benefits attached, for example acupressure increases circulation, blood flow and the production of collagen...as part of my training I was required to carry out a number of case studies to back this up - from back, shoulder, neck, tension headaches to sinus pain.

There are meridian points within the face that have been shown to be hugely beneficial to the signs of ageing, and this isn't just people trying to jump on the anti-ageing money wagon, acupressure is a highly skilled and demanding healing art and no training is about profiteering.  The effects of an acupressure massage is amazing.  I suffer, and have since I was a child, from terrible sinus pain sometimes it was so bad that I didn't know what to do, there was no escape from the pain.  Until I learnt to do my own Acupressure by hand and then by wand.  I noticed that not only did the massage drain the excess fluid in the process it also lifted my under eye area and improved the condition of my skin.
